The first insights of the project
Ghana’s project group goals can be resumed in finding solutions to offer a better life for disable people there. After being in Ghana for almost two weeks, they have already started their initial tasks of the mission. They have done seven interviews out of ten, and by the end of this week they can finish the rest of it, and get into the analyses of the full result of those interviews after that, in order to prepare what they should focus on the next week.
The group members are having meetings in different spots; sometimes it takes place where Justin and Pascal are staying (Hard haven) and the other times in the community houses (people’s houses) near to the compound where the others are staying.
In some cases it’s very interesting to visit people in their homes, to get in contact with them and to see also how they are living, and as they said after they experimented that, sometimes it’s really shocking, you get to see people barely have the money to buy food or bring their children to hospital.
There are many children who needs care, what affects most of the time their parents job if they have one, they found also a lot of children that are beaten in school but there are also the ones who are treated normally.
The group project are also having troubles with heat, they said that it’s hard to sleep even though their rooms are equipped with vans, and they go regularly to a café with air-conditioning at a half Km from the house to connect to the internet and cooling a little bit.
In this period, they had the chance to visit different places in Akra as swimming pool, markets, night clubs …, even though Ghana is more chaotic than Netherlands, but in general the team is happy to be there and to have the chance to see how creative people can be, especially if the people were under pressure, because all of that challenge toward the hard life that they are having but still they are being creative over it .
