Excited change in the local gardening system
After the very tough beginning, everything seems to be on the right path from now on. The team decided to make a plan to fertilize in a better way. Also, providing other agricultural details for the supporter with more professional knowledge, the team decided to amaze the locals with the power of new technology and the Internet.
On the 6thof May the Uganda Team sent us a voice message with the updates regarding their project. As we remember they are working on the Vegetable garden and on the management of the Garden. The team has the opportunity to work closely together with the manager who is called Mr Maphiro. Currently they are in the process of buying equipment for example seeds, fertilizers and pesticides to actually get the vegetable garden started with the intention to start planting the seeds the next day, because then they have everything needed to get started with their main project.
Besides that the team is having a meeting with all the stakeholders to optimize the project the team is working on and also to talk about the future of the vegetable garden. Besides taking care of the garden, the team is also working on other SILC activities and are planning to launch the website for of the SILC concept at the end of this year. They are preparing testimonials and texts from the past teams to get it ready for the website.
The weeks after the team had also the possibility to have a short break from their heavy work and they went to do a safari which was an amazing experience for the team to relax. Right away after the break the team carries on with their work and are starting to wrap things up, write their advise report and management plan. There are still things unclear about the vegetable garden and the team is having regular meetings with all the shareholders in order to clarify all the unclarities.
Besides the work of gardening system, the team has been observing the local students' behavior around and tried to communicate with them to get a better idea of local surrounding from their true perspectives.
Besides that the team ran into some cultural differences for example how things are handled in Europe and how things are handled in Africa. Sometimes it is difficult for the team because people don’t follow plans and don’t show up in meetings or show up late. One other thing that bothered the team was that the people were not listening and not communicating well to each other. As there are a lot of parties involved in the project it can be difficult to communicate with each other if there is no willingness to hear what the others have to say.
But the team is proud to have conquered all the cultural problems and is trying to relax more and enjoy the rest of their time in Africa...
